| Full Description: Mahatma Gandhi, Medallion, "Meeting Tagore", 2015, Obv: image of Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore, Rev: details of Gandhi's 1st meeting with Tagore, 40g, 40mm, UNC. Note: Rabindranath Tagore & Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, two great Indians had between them a kinship & appreciation of deepest character. They both were for Indianism, humanism & emancipation of dispossessed. The poet and the karmayogi met for the first time on March 6, 1915 Tagore first called Gandhiji a Mahatma (A Great Soul) & Gandhiji called him Gurudev (The Great Sentinel). Gandhiji had advised that students at Shantiniketan must do their own work and there is no need of taking help of servants, cooks, sweepers or others. Tagore agreed without hesitation by saying "sab kaje hat lagai mora". The system started pm 10th March, 1915 & the day was declared as Gandhi Divas in Tagore Ashram. | ||||
