Maurya Empire, Kaushambi (200-300 BC), Cast Copper Kakini (Specimen Pair of 2 Coins), Obv;  an elephants to leftRev; Buddha stupa symbol (three-arched hill) with crescent, 4.4g, 13.34 & 27.28 mm, About Very Fine, Rare.

 Cast copper coins. the moulds of these were made of clay, were multi-layered and often joined together as the molten metal was poured into the clay moulds. When the clay dried, the moulds were broken to retrieve the coin. Very often during the breaking and retrieval process, if the moulds were broken before the clay had dried fully, the coins would be still be 'joined' together, as per the above specimen. As it’s very well known The above coin bears 2 symbols -. Both are Mauryan symbols of  Chandragupta Maurya.
