Full Description: Hoysalas of Dwarasamudra, Gold Gadyana, Vishnuvardhana (AD 1106-1152), Obv: Within linear border "Sardula” (mythical Lion of Karnataka) walking towards right with deity (probably goddess “Chamundi”) seated on Lion. The deity wearing crown and holding conch in right hand & discus in left hand, with sun and moon around. Rev: kannada legends “sri no / na m ba va di / gondah” in three lines, 4.1g, 15.11mm, (Mitch#202, K. Ganesh & Dr. Girijpathy # G5), about very fine, Rare for the type.
Note: This type is also popularly known as Conqueror of Nolambavadi Issue. Vishnuvardhana alias Bittiga campaigned to consolidate the Hoysala Kingdom. He had consolidated his sovereignty over the Gangavadi, Nolambavadi and Talakad which formed the heart of his realm around AD 1117. Similar coin was sold in 2012 by Marudhar Arts in Auction # 4 (lot no 3065) for Rs. 1,90,000.
