Full Description: Trial Strike Copper Uniface Rupee, King George VI, Struck in sometime after 1940 (probably 1947), obv: mirrored portrait of King George VI, rev: uniface, 18.2g, 33.8mm, slabbed and graded by NGS as AU 58, Extremely Rare. Grading provides the reference of Pridmore page no 190 in which Pridmore has listed the Silver Planchet and Pure-Nickel Patterns, but no where he has mentioned about these being struck in copper as well.
It is little difficult to understand that why was it struck, whether to test the dies or as an inexpensive examples to be given out. Also it is strange to have the mirrored image which puzzles up this being struck for what reason. Because the mirrored portrait images have never been seen earlier.
Probably the specimen trial strike issue, Unique! |
