Full Description: Bengal Sultanate, Ala-ud-din Husain Shah, Khazana Mint, AH 899, Gold Tanka, Obv: kalima shahada, Rev: al sultan-ul-adil al badil wald sayyad-ul-mursalin ala-ud-din abul muzzafar husain shan al sultan khuld allahu mulkahu wa sultanahu, shahada within double multifoiled & ornated border, 10.65g, 24.33mm, (G&G # B 690), about un-circulated, lovely and bold strike, Exceedingly Rare. First time offered in any auction.
Goron and Goenka lists this as "RRR" on the rarity scale. This coin is the first coin of his reign in Gold with full decorated borders with long legends type on the obverse. It is very hard to find beautiful designed coins in sultanate coinage where as in this particular specimen has lovely strike overall. Missing from various collections. Husain was an important ruler of the Bengal Sultanate during his reign the entire sultanate has enjoyed and lived through the most prosperous period. After the damages to the this sultanate by the Habshis, Husain was the one who reorganized the administration, army, social life. Trade during his reign expanded greatly. |
