Full Description: Jaunpur Sultanate, Shams-ud-din Ibrahim Shah, Silver Tanka (Tughra Style), Obv: al wathiq bitayid-ur-rahman abul muzaffar ibrahim shah al sultan, Rev: fizaman-ul-imam naib amir-ul-momineen abul fatah khuldat khilafat, 10.70g, 25.18mm, (G&G # J3), superb bold strike, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare. Sham-ud-din Ibrahim Shah was the first ruler who had issued coins in the Jaunpur sultanate and this is the first coin of Silver tanka series of the sultanate of Jaunpur. Date on this specimen is in the margin but believe to be AH 823 only. It is important to notice that the silver coins of this ruler are more rarer than off the gold tankas and the reverse dies are same like the the gold tankas. The tughra style on this specimen is of the distinct Bengal style. Goron and Goenka lists this as RRR on the rarity scale. |
