Full Description: Akbar, Salimabad Ajmer, Copper Square Falus, 4X RY, Obv: allahu akbar, Rev: ilahi year at the top and zarb salimabad at the bottom, 6.75g, 13.71 X 14.11mm, about very fine, Rare. The Mughal Emperor
Akbar-e-Azam went to the shrine of Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, but on his travels
he also felt inspired to see Salim Chishti. Akbar came to Chishti's home
(Presently in Fatehpur Sikri), seeking a male heir to his throne. Chishti
blessed Akbar, and soon the first of three sons was born to him. He named his
first son Salim (later emperor Jahangir) in honor of Salim Chishti. The mint
name of these coins initially appeared as Salimabad Ajmer, while on the later
issues Ajmer was dropped and only honorific Salimabad was used. |
