Full Description: Jahangir, Agra Mint, Silver Rupee, AH 1020/6 RY, Month Azar, Obv: nur ud din jahangir shah akbar shah within ornate angled frame, Rev: elahi month, sana and zarb at bottom within ornate lozenge, beautifully decorated on both sides, 11.14g, 25mm, (KM # 145.1), file marks on edge otherwise about extremely fine, Rare. It is hardly surprising that Jahangir would choose such unusual ornamentation, for he was a lover of nature, who described in his memoirs the scenic beauty of the beautiful places he enjoyed visiting, such as Kashmir, and the flora and fauna that he found there. Azar is the ninth month of Islamic calendar. The Agra mint issued Rupees in both square and round shapes alternating the shape of the coin between even and odd months. |
