Indore, Shivaji Rao II Holkar (VS 1943-1960 / AD 1886-1903), Indore Mint, Copper Pattern Rupee, 1955 VS, (AD 1899), Obv: torso of Maharaja Shivaji Rao II Holkar facing slightly left, wearing the Turban and a three row pearl necklace. Legend in Nagari around : ruler's name and titles श्रीमंत शिवाजी राव महाराज होळकर इंदूर (Shirimant Shivaji Rao Maharaj Holkar Indore), Date Samvat 1955 below the torso, Rev: coat of arms in centre: crossed khanda (broad-sword) and lance over a field of poppy and wreath, a sacred Nandi couch and at right and a horse rearing at left, radiant Sun face above under a royal umbrella, motto on scroll below in sanskrit legend एक रुपया प्राहोमेशो लभ्या श्री: कर्तु प्रारब्धात (shiva said: wealth is obtained by doer's previous actions), value in nagari एक रुपया   (one rupee) behind the horse and the bull, country's name in english INDORE below the scroll, toothed border, 10.1g, 13.15mm, about extremely fine, Rare.

It is an example of the pattern rupee produced at the Soho mint in Birmingham. This one is struck in copper, but proof specimen in silver also exists. The coin is exactly the size as the Imperial rupee. The Agent at Indore disagreed with it as these coins with same diameter could mix-up with the Imperial rupees. Thenit was decided by him that they should be of slightly smaller size. Therefore the successive issue VS 1956 is smaller and the portrait is pointing into the circular legend, because the used the same portrait punches for preparing the dies.

In The Holkar State Coinage it is listed under AE-Half Anna as 566, pl XVI-275 on the page 43. So it could be contributed towards this specimen as it was probable a trial strike issue. The pattern or trial pieces struck in copper are listed as KM #TS1.
