Full Description: Punch Marked Coin, Gandhara Janapada (600-500 BC), Silver Bentbar (Shatamana), (Shalaka Type ?), Obv: six petaled flower at each end of the bar, Rev: uniface, 11.15g, 8.30 x 41.48mm, (Rajgors Series-35# P. 102, No. 553), about very fine, Extremely Rare.
These Shatamanas were probably issued under the reign of Pukkusati who was the contemporary King under Buddha from the Gandhara-Kashmir reign and after hearing from the friend King Bambisara about Buddha he immediately adopted the Dharma and path of Buddha and traveled to Savathi to see Buddha. The capital was believed to beTaxila under the reign. |
