Wazir Imad-ul-Mulk enthroned in the fort, Muhi-ul-miyat under the title of Shah Jahan III. Immediately after the murder of Alamgir II by Ghazi-Ud-Din the Wazir’s agent in this atrocious deed, Mahdi Quli Khan, silently enthroned in the fort Muhi-ul-miyat (the grandson of Aurangzeb’s youngest child Kam Bakhsh) under the name Shah Jahan III(to which we know, in our numismatic list as Shah Jahan III). The administration was carried on for a few months in his name. The rightful heir, Ali Gauhar (Shah Alam II), was soon placed on the throne.

The coins of Shah Jahan III are few with limited mints and very difficult to acquire.
