Full Description: Maratha Confederacy, Alibaug Mint, Silver Rupee, In the name of Shah Alam II, Obv: sikka mubarak badshah ghazi, Rev: double stem leaves in the bottom field, 11.00g, 21.23mm, (M&W # T1), about very fine, Extremely Rare. Alibag or Alibagh was the chief town of the former state of Kolaba. The name Alibagh means Ali's garden. The Kolaba or Alibag rupee to which he refers was a variety of the ankushi rupee. Prinsep surpisingly, does not list either a Kolaba or Alibag rupee. |
