Full Description: Rohilkhand Kingdom, Murtazabad Mint, Silver Rupee, 14 RY, In the name of Shah Alam II,Obv: sikka mubarak shah alam badshah ghazi, Rev: sanah julus, manus maimant, zarb on top & arrow mark in manus of letter 'sin', 11.00g, 21.88mm, Unlisted, about very fine, Rare. Murtazabad is a small Village in Mufti Ganj Tehsil in Jaunpur District of Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the Varanasi Division, 19 KM towards East from District head quarters Jaunpur. Such a mint name existed only on the Maratha coin of the Maharashtra area which was the name given to Miraj.Occurance of similar name during the 18th -19th century from Uttar Pradesh is a good addition to numismatic knowledge. Specimen has been found with coins of Sambhal and Pali Humayunpur and hence it is a part of a currency bag from Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. As the coin was found it is certain that it was minted by the Rohillas, most probably by Hafiz Rahmat Khan. |
