Islam Bandar was the name given to the port town of Rajapur on the Konkan Coast by Mu'azzam (Shah Alam Bahadur), the son of Aurangzeb, while pursuing a campaign against the Maratha Chhatrapati Sambhaji in mid-1680s.

Islam Bandar (Rajapur) is in the Konkan about 48 Kilometres South-east of Ratnagiri. It was formerly in Possession of the Adil Shahis of Bijapur and together with Jaitapur on the estuary of the creek, was a maritime port of significane. In 1638 it was said to be one of the best Deccan maritime towns. An English factory  was established there in that year. In 1660 Shivaji threatened Rajapur when he levied  contributions from the inhabitants. A year later he attacked the port, plundered it and seized several of English factors.

The Rupees exist with the mint name of Islambandar and are said to have been struck at Rajapur by Aurangzeb during his campaign in the Konkan  in the late 17th Century. Rajapur is said to have been renamed Islambandar during this time.
