Machilipatnam which is also referred to as Bandar or Machhlipatnam / Masulipatnam is a foremost port city in the Kirshna district of Andhra Pradesh. The city is nestled on the Coromandel Coast of India. This city is popular in the Indian history because of its rich historical background which was dominated by the Dutch, French and British. It was the major gateway of their sea trade. The first factory was setup by securing a patent from the Sultan of Golkonda in 1669 by French. After capturing the Bijapur most of the prominent towns and parts in the south were captured by Aurangzeb. An example of the Gold Mohur of Machhlipatan struck by the Aurangzeb dated AH 1105 with RY 37 was sold by Baldwins in 2007 and the coins of the same mint struck by his successors Farrukhsiyar and Muhammad Shah were also reported and sold a decade ago. It is the first time that this gold mohur of Muhammad Shah is offered in any Indian auction, extremely important coin of the Mughal Ruler for this mint. Super mint state and exceedingly rare. |
