Jaunpur Sultanate, Shams-ud-din Ibrahim Shah (AH 804-844/1402-1440 AD), Silver Tanka (Dinar), AH 823, Obv: al wathiq bitayid-ur-rahman abul muzaffar Ibrahim Shah al sultan, Rev: fi zaman al imam naib amir-ul-mominin abul fatah khuld khilafatahu in center & zarbat hada al dinar fi sana hijri in margin, 10.53g, 25.00mm, (Struck from gold die, unlisted in silver), about very fine, Extremely Rare.
Sham-ud-din Ibrahim Shah was the first ruler who had issued coins in the Jaunpur sultanate and this is the first coin of silver tanka series of the sultanate of Jaunpur. Date on this specimen is in the margin but believed to be AH 823 only. It is important to notice that the silver coins of this ruler are rarer than the gold tankas. The tughra style on this specimen is of the distinct Bengal style. |
