Full Description:

Rohilkhand Kingdom, Sambal Mint (off flan), Silver Rupee, AH 1186/14 RY, In the name of Shah Alam II, Obv: Sikka Mubarak Badshah Ghazi Shah Alam, Rev: sana 14 julus, zarb, flower motifs, 11.1g, 22.5mm, (Unlisted mint in KM), about very fine, Extremely Rare.

This specimen was found with coins of Sambal & Pali Humayunpur and hence it is a part of a currency bag from Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal. As the coin was found it is certain that it was minted by the Rohillas, most probably by Hafiz Rahmat Khan.

The town of Sambal is situated in the old Muradabad district. It is a Muslim dominated area even today. The earliest occurrence of this name is on the copper Dams of Akbar, where after the mint closed down until the time of Shah Alam II when the Rohillas re-started it to mint their Rupees. The coins have been unlisted in major catalogs thus they are rare.

The same mint was sold in our auction no 22 for 43000 INR.
