Full Description: Travancore, Copper Paravai Kasu (Heavy), Obv: Bird (Anna Paravai) to right, Rev: Lamp flanked by decorated conch and discuss, 3.1g, 14.00mm, (Variant of Sarasan # 79.1, heavy weight), about extremely fine, Extremely Rare. Note:- The coin “Paravai Kasu” is found in an inscription of the year KE 685 (1510 AD) on the wall of the Vishnu temple at Idarayakudi, in the Agasteeswaram Taluk of erstwhile Travancore. From the context and wording of this inscription, the Paravai Kasu which was current in this region in the 16th century, does not appear to have been a gold coin. Paravai means bird. Therefore, this paravai kasu bears the device of a bird.
