Full Description: Tea Token, 3 Annas, Anglo American Direct Tea Trading Company, Copper, Obv: A. A. initials, Rev: denomination value, 3.0g, 23.05mm, (PR # 4A), suspension hook removal traces visible, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare. Note: Pridmore has mentioned in the book that this was first recorded in 1895CE and was provisionally attributed to the Ceylon Estate token series. No company or estate can be traced in Ceylon whose name corresponds to the initials A.A., but research and the monetary value suggestions that it was issued by the Anglo-American Direct Tea Trading Co. Ltd., Nellampatty, Malabar (Kerala) in the Southern India. The company were proprietors of tea, coffee, and cardamom estates in various districts of South India. They also had tea gardens in Assam. Their Calcutta agents were Finlay, Muir & Co. |
