Full Description: Hyderabad, Peston Shahi, Sikandar Jah, Silver Rupee (4), ( 1803-1829 AD) Mint Farkhanda Buniyad, Obv: splendent sun with the persian letter Nun, Rev: thickly cut dagger ( KM # C 66.2), about fine to very fine, Rare. Pestonjee Meherjee was incharge of state mint Aurangabad(Farkhanda Buniyad). He was the younger brother of Viccajee Meherjee, the well known banker of Hyderabad state at that time. A silver coin was struck at Aurangabad mint, bearing the initial letter of Pestonjee and was widely known after him as the Peston Shai coin of the Nizams government. |
