Full Description: 1877, Victoria Empress, Mule, Silver 1/2 Rupee, Bombay Mint, Currency Strike, A/II/dot, (Unlisted in PR/GK # 609), about very fine, Exceedingly Rare. Pridmore has not listed this type, though he has mentioned it in the foot notes on page no. 127 of “The Coins of the British Commonwealth of Nations Part 4, India” that a modern proof restrike from the year 1877 of obverse type A and reverse type II without bead or dot exists from the Bombay Mint. But there is no mention of a year 1877 A/II/Bombay/dot type as being a currency or proof restrike issue in the book. This coin is a mule where the obverse die with the portrait of Victoria Empress from the Calcutta Mint was paired with reverse die with the year from the Bombay Mint. |
