Full Description: Netherland East Indies of Sumatra, East India Company, Copper 4 Keping, AH 1219/1804 AD, Obv: coat-of-arms with the date below, legend around, Rev: value and hijri year in Persian, 8.5g, 30.61mm, (KM # 266), about extremely fine, Rare. Note: Though this coin is filed under the Netherlands East Indies, this type was actually minted in England and issued by the British East India Company. Local forces under British officers such as Stamford Raffles conquered the Dutch holdings during the Napoleonic Wars. These were returned to the Dutch by the terms dictated at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Raffles went on to found the modern-day city of Singapore. |
