Full Description: Eastern Chalukyas of Vengi, Vishnuvardhana I alias Vishama Siddhi (6 Century AD), Copper Base Alloy Unit, Vishnukundin Type, Obv: a roaring lion standing facing right with one foreleg raised, tail curled on the back, Srivatsa in front, Brahmi legend “Shri Vishama”, Rev: a bold Srivatsa between two tridents, 2.1g, 14.38mm, (Variant of Chattopadhyaya # 64, Unlisted type), sharp strike, choice extremely fine, Extremely Rare. Note: The Eastern Chalukya rulers continued minting their coins in the type of their predecessors, the Vishnukundins. Vishnuvardhana I's issues have the Brahmi legend 'Shri Vishama Siddhi' clearly visible above the lion, but in later issues the legend is often shortened. |
