Full Description: Delhi Sultanate, Suri Dynasty, Muhammad Adil Shah (1552-1556 AD), Jaunpur Mint by style (off flan), Silver Rupee, AH (96)4, Obv: Arabic legends, The Kalama Shahada within a square, the four Caliphs' names in the margins, Rev: Arabic legend "sultan Muhammad 'Adil' khuld Allahu mulkahu wa saltanahu 'ala amrahu", and Nagari legend "Sri Mahamada sah", 11.0g, 24.6mm, (Unpublished in G&G), test marks, choice very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: Jaunpur mint is not listed by G&G for any Suri dynasty coins. One coin with the complete mint name Jaunpur has appeared in an auction about 5 years ago and the stylistic characteristics of this coin are similar to it. |
