Full Description: Panchala Dynasty, Rajnyah Vijayamitra (220 AD), Copper 1/4 Karshapana, Obv: Brahmi legend "Rajnyah Vija(yamitasa)" in two lines, Rev: a conch shell placed horizontally on a platform, flanked by standards, 1.40g, 12.66mm, (JONS by Karan Singh 234 # Fig. 7), about very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: This is a newly discovered type and an example of Rajnyah Vijayamitra’s coinage has only just been published by Karan Singh in the Journal of the Oriental Numismatic Society #234 (2019). This ruler issued coins after the decline of the Kushans when Panchala restored its sovereignty. Until now, it was assumed that only Achyuta ruled in this period but, as Karan Singh has shown, two more rulers emerged after the fall of the Kushans: Rajnyah Bhanumitra and Rajnyah Vijayamitra. |
