Full Description: Vijayanagara Empire, Aravidu Dynasty, Tirumalaraya (15 Century CE), Gold Fanam, Obv: a boar walking to the right, a dagger in front, under an archway with Vadakalai Namam, sun and moon symbols besides, Rev: Nagari legend "Tirumala" in two lines with interlinear rules, 0.36g, 6.42mm, (Mitch. K&A # 807), choice very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: This is an extremely important gold fanam bearing two Vaishnavite symbols, theVaraha and the Vadakalai. This depiction shows strong influence of God Venkateshwara on the rulers of Vijayanagara Empire. In 2016, a similar coin was sold in an Indian auction for Rs. 2.4L.
