Full Description: Gujarat Sultanate, Shams ud-din Muzaffar Shah III (second reign AH 991-992 /1583-1584 AD), Ahmadabad Dar-ul Darb Mint (off flan), Silver Rupee, Rebellion issue, AH 991, Obv: Arabic legend The Kalima Shahada within a double square with dots, the four Caliphs’ names in the margin, Rev: Arabic legend “sultan Muzaffar Shah ibn Mahmud Shah” and Hijri year 991 within a double square with dots, “al sultan al-a'zam khuld allahu mulkahu wa sultanahu” and mint name off flan in margin, 11.32g, 23.00mm, (G&G # G647), no test marks, choice very fine, Very Rare. Note: Muzaffar revolted during the reign of Emperor Akbar and in 1583 AD regained the throne of Ahmadabad for approximately a year. During this period he issued coins which were very similar to the coins of Akbar. |
