Full Description: Tea Token, Kanan Devan Hill Produce Company Ltd. Munar (K.D.H.P. Co. Ltd), Bronze 2 Annas, Obv: the bust of Sir John Muir within inner circle, legend "TOKEN FOR 2 ANNAS" around, Rev: three-quarter view of a factory building with K.D.H.P. CO.LD. in the exergue, 6.6g, 26.31mm, (PR # 50), choice very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: Kannan Devan Hill Produce Company controlled a large number of tea gardens in the Travancore area, Munar, Devikulam, South India and also in Assam. The bust depicts Sir John Muir, Bt. (1828-1903), who founded the company in 1897. Sir John Muir was head of the firm of James Finlay & Co., Glasgow, which had control of many tea, coffee and cinchona estates extending over a large area in North Travancore. |
