Gupta Dynasty, Samudragupta (335-370 CE), Gold Dinar, “Scepter/Standard” type, Obv: the king standing facing left, nimbate, holding the royal scepter (Rajadhanda) adorned with a ribbon in his left hand and sacrificing over an altar, a filleted Garuda standard on the left field, crescent on the Garuda’s head, Brahmi legend “Samudra” below the king's arm, circular Brahmi legend “Samarasativitatavi(jayo)jitaripurajito…., Rev: the goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated on high backed throne, whose two legs are clearly visible, with her feet resting on a circular mat below, a diadem and cornucopia in her hands, a tamgha on the top-left field and a small symbol on the top-right, Brahmi legend “Parakramah” on the right field, dotted border around, 7.62g, 19.70mm, (Variant of Altekar, Bayana Hoard # Pl. II-14/TOTGE, S. Kumar # Class II -Var. C.3), almost complete legend visible on both the sides, choice very fine, Very Rare.
