Full Description: Post-Guptas, Pushyabhuti Dynasty, Harshavardhana (Siladitya) (606-647 CE), Silver Drachma, Obv: the side profile of the king facing left in maukhari style with the date in front of his head, Rev: a fan-tailed peacock standing facing right in the center and Brahmi legend "Viji(tavanir avanapati) Sri Siladityadivam jayati" around, 2.18g, 13.97mm, (Mitch. ACW # 4936-37/W. Pieper # 928), choice very fine, Very Rare. Note: This Coin was issued by the famous King Harshavardhana of the Pushyabhuti Dynasty, who ascended the throne of Thaneswar (Haryana). His coins follow the Madhyadesa type of the Guptas, with the fan-tailed peacock on the reverse and employing the same legends as the older dynasty. |
