Full Description:

Gupta Dynasty, Samudragupta (335-370 CE), Gold Dinar, “Archer” type, Obv: the king standing facing the left, nimbate, holding a longbow in his left hand and an arrow in his right, wearing a royal diadem, with a filleted Garuda standard on the left field, the Brahmi legend “Samudra" below the king's arm, a circular Brahmi legend around the field, Rev: the goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated on the throne, whose four legs are clearly visible, with her feet resting on a circular mat below, a diadem and a cornucopia in her hands, a tamgha on the top-left field, the Brahmi legend “Apratirathah" (Matchless Chariot Warrior) on the right field, a dotted border around the field, 7.4g, 19.83mm, (Variant of Altekar, Bayana Hoard # Pl. II-13/BMC # IV- 1), choice very fine, Extremely Rare.

Note: The archer type coins of Samudragupta are so rare that they perhaps exist in smaller number than those of the Ashvamedha type. The departure from the standard to the archer type is a definite step towards the Indianization of the Gupta coinage.
