Full Description: Nayakas of Ikkeri (Keladi/Bednur), Sadashiva Nayaka (15th Century AD), Gold Pagoda, Obv: the god Shiva seated in the padmasana posture with his consort Parvati on his left thigh, one of Shiva's left hands holds a trident and the other is around his consort's waist, near Shiva’s head are the sun and moon, Rev: Nagari legend "Shri/Sadashi/va" in three lines with interlinear rules, 3.43g, 10.9mm, (Mitch. K&A # 710), about extremely fine, Scarce. Note: The Ikkeri Nayakas copied Sadashiva's gold coins. They changed the deities from Vishnu and Lakshmi (Sadashiva was strongly Vaishnavite) to Shiva and Parvati, and also shortened the legend to 'Shri Sadashiva raya'/'Shri Sadashiva'. |
