Full Description: Chola Empire, Rajadhiraja I (1018-1054 CE), Copper Kahavanu, 'Ceylon Man' type, Obv: the king standing facing the right, holding aloft a globule, altar, flame, conch, and lotus in the field, the Nagari legend “Shri/Raja/dhira/ja” on the right field, a dotted border around the field, Rev: the king seated facing the right, holding a conch shell (Shankha) in his raised left arm, Chola dynastic emblem of seated tiger and two lamp-stands under an umbrella to its right, 3.27g, 20.12mm, (K. Ganesh # 1.42), traces of gold extracted from the coin, about very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: This copper coin was coated with gold to be used as Gold Kahavanu, thus it shows the traces of gold extraction on its surface. |
