Full Description: Rajgir (Bihar) Region (250-150 BC), Cast Copper Unit, Uninscribed, Obv: an elephant standing facing to the left, an Indradhvaja in front of it and an Ujjaini symbol above, Rev: a railed tree in the center, a six-arched hill on the left and a sun-like symbol on the right field, 4.86g, 21.71mm, (Unlisted), choice very fine, Very Rare. Note: After around 450 BC Magadha capital was shifted to Patalipura (Patna), rendering Rajgir a smaller mint. It is an important coin, contemporary to standards of similar size, weight, and motif type to the City State Coin of Kaushamabi. There are less than 5 coins known of this type. |
