Full Description: Kushan Dynasty, Huvishka (160-190 CE), Gold Dinar, "NANAPAO"(Nature Goddess) type, Mint Balkh?, Obv: a diademed and half-length crowned bust facing right emerging from clouds, holding a mace-scepter in one hand and an elephant-goad (ankush) in the other hand, the Bactrian legend "þAONANOþAO OOηþKI KOþANO" "Shaonashao Ooishki Koshano" (King of kings Huvishka the Kushan) around the field, Rev: the goddess Nana standing, nimbate, facing right, wearing stephane and crescent, holding a horse-headed scepter in the right hand and a bowl/box in the left hand, a tamgha on the right field, the Bactrian legend “NANAÞAO” on the left field, a dotted border around the field, 7.89g, 19.35mm, (Gobl # 152), minor test mark on the edge, superb strike, struck in high relief, sharp features, choice quality, extremely attractive, AU-UNC, Exceedingly Rare. Note: Bust facing right is Rare. Dr. Robert Gobl has mentioned only three such coins in his book. |
