Full Description: Maratha Confederacy, Chikodi Mint (Off flan), Domains of the Kolhapur Chhatrapatis, Silver ½ Rupee, "Badr Munir" Couplet, In the name of Aurangzeb Alamgir, Obv: Persian legend “Sikka zad Jahan chu Badr Munir, Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir”, Rev: Persian legend "sana julus & zarb Chikodi” off flan, lingam symbol, 5.7g, 17.07mm, (KM # 130/M&W listed under Misc and Unattributed # T11), test cut mark on the edge, about very fine, Very Rare. Note: This type is known from the Shambhu-Peerkhani rupee as it bears an additional mark of a Linga on the reverse. There were several mints that produced 'Shambu-Peerkhani' rupees, but find-spot evidence strongly suggests that this half-rupee was minted at Chikodi. A Desai family operated this mint. |
