Full Description: Tripura Kingdom, Durga Manikya (1809-21 AD), Silver Tanka, Saka Era 1731, Citing Queen Sumitra, Obv: lion facing left, trident on back, cross left and right, date below, within double circle containing groups of four beads arranged lozenge-wise between the circles, Rev: Bengali legend "Kali Pade/Sri Sri Yuta Durga/Manikya Deva Sri/mati Sumitra/Maha Devyau” in five lines within a circle of beads, 10.8g, 25.37mm, (RB # 264/ KM # 275), some flatness otherwise, gem quality, about extremely fine, Extremely Rare. Note: It was probably struck for presentation to British officers at the King's coronation. An invocation to Kali is unusual in the legend. |
