Full Description: British Empire, 1899, Anglo-Boer War Medal (1899-1902), Victoria Queen, Silver, Awarded to "C. Laird", Obv: the Jubilee bust of Queen Victoria facing left, legend around "VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX", Rev: Britannia holding the flag and a laurel crown towards a large group of soldiers, with warships offshore, legend "SOUTH AFRICA", with bar, engraved on the edge "4235 PTE. C. LAIRD. 6th DRAGOON GDS.", 33.53g, 36.23x51.45mm, (MYB 2007 # 150), minor nicks on the edge, about extremely fine. Note: The Anglo-Boer War campaign of the British Empire had various specialist units involved for the first time, as well as locally raised units and contingents from India, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. It is one of the most popular awards among collectors. This is the third type of the reverse which does not have the date on it. |
