Full Description:

Air Crash Cover, Comet Crash, 1953, FORCES AIR MAIL, Singapore to England, partial part of Salvaged Air crash Cover of G-ALYV, dispatched by an RAF serviceman, very good condition, Very Rare.

Note: Flight # BOAC 783 (operated by British Overseas Airways Corporation), registered as G-ALYV, had originated in Singapore and was a service to London. After a scheduled stopover at Calcutta's Dum Dum Airport, the aircraft departed on 2 May 1953 at 16:29 IST on its next segment to Delhi.

Six minutes after take-off, while the jet was climbing to 7,500 ft from sea level, radio contact with air traffic control was lost. At around the same time, witnesses on the ground near the village of Jagalgori, around 40 km northwest of Calcutta, observed the aircraft coming down in flames. Severe rain and thunderstorms were present in the area.

The wreckage of G-ALYV was later found strewn along an 8KM track, with the main parts still on fire. There were no survivors of the 43 Passengers.
