Note: Similar to coins of France and other European countries, Tipu rupees are always struck with coarse milling and have a distinctive pattern. It is possible that Tipu's French workers originated this distinctive milling style. Tipu experimented with oblique milling in the later part of 1219ME (1791 AD), which was copied from the Madras presidency. In comparison with coarse milling, it was likely chosen due to its ease of production and lower cost. In 1220ME, however, the old method of coarse milling was revived. This rupee from the Tipu series is aesthetically pleasing and missing from many collections.

The Oblique Milling Rupee was only struck for one year.
