The Star was awarded to all soldiers who fought in the early years of the war on all the fronts around the world. Issued in 1917 and subsequently mailed out, a large number of the recipients had either been killed or demobilized. The medals stayed with the family for a century before entering the market, which explains the pristine state of the medals.
