Full Description: Kushana Dynasty, Huvishka (160-190 AD), Gold Dinar, Mercury Type, Obv: king seated with diademed nimbate head turned to left, wearing helmet like head dress with ear flaps and an ornamented coat, in right hand scepter like object, in left hand short shafted lance with bactrian legend around þAONANOþAO OOηþKI KOþANO (King of Kings Huvishka Kushan), Rev: god standing to right, holding goad in one hand and altar at the other with baktrian legend at left PHARRO (god of glory) and tamgha at left within dotted borders, 7.90g, 20.32mm, about extremely fine, Very Rare. The coins of PHARRO god are very important in the Kushan coinage because they mean the god who bestows the royal glory on the kingdom. This specimen has almost full details for a type. |
