Full Description: Akbar, Katak Mint, Silver Square Rupee, AH 987, Obv: kalima shahada, jhar mark on left side, Rev: jalal ud din muhammad akbar badshah ghazi, zarb at bottom & hijri date on top, 11.50g, 19.46 x 19.29mm,(Liddle# S38), about extremely fine, Rare. The interesting point to note on this specimen is JHAR LEAF mark which usually appears on the coins from the Rajputana states. The thought could be given to the point that adoption of Jhar leaf is mainly because of showing the alliance between the Mughal and Rajputs after Akbar got married to Heer Kunwari alias Jodha Bai. But bearing a clear mint name Katak/Cuttack which is located on the other side again raises one more question that why Jhar leaf in Katak mint coin.
What ever a very lovely specimen with deep bold strikes making this of an exceptional quality. |
