Full Description: British India, King Edward VII, Uniface 5 Rupees, Initial ‘C’ for Calcutta Circle, "AT ANY OFFICE OF ISSUE NOT SITUATED IN BURMA", Dated 3 June 1905, Signed by O.T. Barrow, Red Underprint, RA Prefix, S. No. RA3 92682, (Prefix Unlisted in KJ & RR), spindle holes, folds, graded by PMG as 20 Very Fine, Top-Pop and highest graded, Exceedingly Rare. Note: PMG records only this banknote of this variety in their census. So far, the RA Prefix was known to collectors in banknotes bearing the signature of A.F. Cox and this is the first time that a specimen with an unlisted prefix for an O.T. Barrow’s issue is being offered in any auction. It is a banknote type from Edwardian era that is extremely tough to find. This issue, where Burma is excluded in the promise text, was released as a universalized issue, except for use at the circles situated in Burma. This type is known from the Bombay, Calcutta and Lahore circles. A unique opportunity for advanced prefix-wise collectors interested in both Indian and Burmese themes. |
