Full Description: Hoysalas of Dorasamudra, Vishnuvardhan Bittiga (1106-1152 CE), Gold Pagoda, Obv: standing figure of god Vishnu on the back of a mythical lion (Sardula) holding conch-shell (Shankha) and mace (Gadha) in left hand and Chakra in right, flanked by sun and moon, Rev: Kannada legend “Shri No/Nombavadi/Gonda” in three lines with interlinear rules, 4.08g, 15.15mm, (Mitch K&A # 202), almost complete legend visible on the reverse, choice very fine, Very Rare. Note: The title 'Nolambawadi/Nonambavadi Gonda' or 'conqueror of the Nolamba country' was held by Bittiga to commemorate his conquest of the Sira - Madakasire region which append before 1117 CE. |
