Ltd), Bronze, 4 Annas, Obv: the bust of Sir John Muir within inner circle, legend "TOKEN FOR 4 ANNAS" around, Rev: three-quarter view of a factory building with K.D.H.P. CO.LD. in the exergue, 6.84g, 26.92mm, (PR # 49), choice very fine, Extremely Rare. Note: The Kannan Devan Hill Produce Company owned a large number of tea gardens in the Travancore area, Munar, Devikulam, South India as well as Assam. Sir John Muir (1828-1903), the founder of the company, is depicted in the bust. Sir John Muir was the head of James Finlay & Co., Glasgow, which controlled many tea, coffee, and cinchona estates in North Travancore. |
